Category 3 Viral Containment Facility

Design lead for the MEP services design of a new research facility north of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on a 5,500 m² site. UK experience in viral containment facilities was imperative to fast-tracking the understanding of all partners within the design team.

With a complex design brief, this Category 3 viral containment facility incorporated specialist variable volume ventilation, specialist gases, sterilisation and drainage systems. Maintaining pressure regimes throughout the facility to achieve airflows in the correct direction to maintain containment were critical to the design.
